Quick start by Nazareth turns into victory over the Lakers

The Oswego State field hockey team lost 3-1 to Nazareth College on Thursday afternoon at Laker Field in Oswego. Nazareth took the lead in the first minute and eventually extended the lead to three goals in the first half. Nazareth is now 10-4 on the season, while Oswego State is 2-14.

Kelly Miranda scored just 58 seconds into the game for the Golden Flyers on an assist from Julie Paska. Miranda added her second goal of the contest in the 11th minute, assisted by Marissa Rys.

The Golden Flyers took a 3-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Kelly Finnegan in the 24th minute.

Oswego State got on the board just before halftime when freshman Lauren Mastriano carried the ball from the middle of the field past two Nazareth defenders, and then around goalkeeper Kelsey Evans before shooting into the open net.

Neither team scored in the second half, and shots were 3-3 over the last 35 minutes. Nazareth's Evans finished the game with three saves and Oswego State goalkeeper Jamie Scharfe had four saves.

Oswego State concludes its season on Oct. 27 at Rensselaer.
