Jennifer Anselmi scored in the second half for New Paltz and it was the only goal of the game as the Hawks defeated the Oswego State women's soccer team 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Laker Field in Oswego.
Oswego State finished SUNYAC play with a 4-6-1 conference record and is 5-10-1 overall. New Paltz clinched a SUNYAC playoff spot with the win and Fredonia's 1-0 loss to Brockport. The Hawks are 5-3-3 in the conference and 7-6-4 overall.
Anselmi's goal came on an excellent individual effort as she dribbled on the right wing, past an Oswego State defender and poked a low shot past the Laker goalkeeper.
Scoring chances were minimal on a windy day in Oswego, but Oswego State goalkeeper Toby Klein made 11 saves in the contest. New Paltz goalkeeper Sarah Boccard had two saves in the game. Each team had five corner kicks.
The Lakers will play non-conference games this week at Clarkson on Wednesday and at home against Scranton on Saturday.
