The Oswego State women's ice hockey team blanked Chatham 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Shady Side Academy in suburban Pittsburgh.

Laker sophomore goalie Hilary Hitchman made 23 saves in the shutout and received offensive support with two goals in the first period and two goals in the third.

Ashley Meyers opened the scoring with her first goal of the season on assists from Jenna Kirkwood and Annie Hirschkorn with 4:48 remaining in the first period. Just over three minutes later, Emily Grippin scored a short-handed goal, assisted by Krista Pattemore.

The Lakers added two insurance goals midway through the third period, as Pattemore scored her first of the year, assisted by Meyers, and Aprilyn Gush scored on assists from Gillian Toneguzzo and Stephanie Esposito.

Oswego State is 2-0-0 on the season, as both games were non-conference games against Chatham. The two teams will play again Jan. 19-20 at the Campus Center Ice Arena and those games will count toward the ECAC Women's West standings.

Next weekend, Oswego State opens conference play against league newcomer RIT. The games at RIT's Ritter Arena are Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
