The Oswego State men's basketball team started its season in winning fashion, as four players scored in double figures in an 86-74 win over Hobart at Max Ziel Gymnasium in Oswego.
Kyle Reuter led the Lakers with 22 points, and and Nick Perioli scored 19. Tommy Downing had 15 and Mahamoud Jabbi scored 13 for Oswego State (1-0). Hobart (0-1) was led by John Grazioli wigh 27 points. Robert Estep added 12.
Hobart built its biggest lead of the first half to six points, with an 18-12 advantage, but Oswego State made back-to-back 3-pointers from Reuter and Ryan Schupp to tie the score. It was a part of a big run for the Lakers to close the half, turning that six-point deficit into a nine-point lead at the break.
The Oswego State lead grew to as much as 15 points, four minutes into the second half, but Hobart whittled away at the lead and scored 13 consecutive points to reduce the Oswego State lead to 54-52 with 12:30 remaining.
The Lakers answered with a run of their own, re-establishing a lead in double figures, and held on down the stretch for the win in the first game of the season.
Oswego State returns to action on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. when they host the College of St. Joseph (Vt.) at Max Ziel Gymnasium in the final game of the Max Ziel Classic.
