The Oswego State women's basketball team defeated Clarkson 72-50 on Thursday at Max Ziel Gymnasium in Oswego.
The Lakers were led by junior Heather Merino, who tied her career-high with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field in the game. Senior Samantha Driscoll added 12 points and Colleen McCready scored 10 for Oswego State and added 10 rebounds. Ten Lakers played more than 10 minutes in the contest.
Oswego State is now 4-2 on the season, while Clarkson fell to 2-4 on the year.
Clarkson jumped out to 10-2 lead to start the game and Oswego State called a timeout, then rattled off a 14-0 run to take a 16-10 lead. Clarkson rallied back and kept it close, reducing the Laker advantage to just 24-23, but another big run by the Lakers gave them a decisive advantage. Oswego State rolled off 16 straight points, capped by a Merino jump shot with just over two minutes remaining in the half to take a 40-23 lead. The Lakers led by double-figures for the remainder of the game.
The Golden Knights were led by 15 points from Alicia Chace and eight points and six rebounds from Monica Thomas. Michelle Reddinger had five points and eight rebounds. Clarkson blocked six Oswego State shots, with Rachel Whitermore swatting three for the Golden Knights.
Oswego State returns to SUNY Athletic Conference action on Friday, when they head up to Plattsburgh to take on the Cardinals at 6 p.m.
