Laker defense leads to playoff victory

The Oswego State men's basketball team defeated Geneseo 61-51 in a SUNYAC quarterfinal game on Tuesday night at Max Ziel Gymnasium.

The Lakers held the Knights to 21 points in the second half, and forced a total of 20 Geneseo turnovers in the contest.

Mat Burridge led Oswego State with 18 points and and also had five rebounds. Tom Downing had 16 points and made three 3-pointers in the first half as the Lakers never trailed in the contest. Kyle Reuter had 11 points. Todd Franze had seven points and four assists.

Geneseo was led by Scott Sciera with 12 points. Scott Morton had nine points. Brian Bennett and Jeff Howe had eight points each.

The Lakers advance to the SUNYAC semifinals where they will play against Plattsburgh at 6 p.m. Friday. Top-seeded Brockport will be the host school for the men's SUNYAC semifinals and finals. Brockport will play against SUNYIT in the other men's semifinal on Friday.
