The Oswego State men's ice hockey team clinched the SUNYAC regular season title by beating Potsdam 8-1 on Friday night at the Campus Center Ice Arena.
Sophomores Brendan McLaughlin and Ryan Ellis had big nights for the Lakers. Each was playing in his 50th career game. McLaughlin had three goals and two assists and Ellis had a goal and five assists. The high-scoring tandem has amassed 86 points each in their 50 career games so far.
Peter Magagna had four points for the Lakers on a goal and three assists. C.J. Thompson, Matt Whitehead, and Brad Dormiedy also scored for Oswego State, and Ryan Scott had 31 saves in net.
Oswego State is now 19-1-3 overall and 10-0-2 in the SUNYAC.
Potsdam's lone goal was scored by Vince Tarantino early in the first period to tie the game 1-1, with assists going to Adam Gebara and Steve Cornelissen. Goalie Rob Barnhardt had 49 saves.
The Lakers were 4-for-13 on the power play in the game, and killed off all seven short-handed situations they faced.
Oswego State hosts Plattsburgh on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the first annual White Out game. All fans in attendance are encouraged to wear white shirts.
