The Oswego State field hockey team scored its first win of the 2007 season by defeating Morrisville 2-0 on Saturday at Laker Field.
The Lakers and Mustangs battled to a scoreless tie through one half of play before freshman Brittany Roetzer found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal in the 39th minute. Sophomore Lauren Mastriano recorded her second goal of the season in the 46th minute to help seal the victory for Oswego State.
Freshman Jamie Scharfe got her first start in goal and stopped six shots while recording a shutout for the Lakers. Oswego State improves to 1-5 on the year, and is 1-0 in SUNYAC play. Morrisville falls to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the SUNYAC. The Lakers return to action Wednesday when they travel to Cortland to take on the nationally-ranked Red Dragons.
Morrisville is a provisional member of the SUNYAC this season. Games against the Mustangs will count in the league standings, but Morrisville is ineligible for the playoffs.
