The St. John Fisher Cardinals scored the game-tying goal late in the second half and scored again in overtime in a 2-1 victory over the Oswego State women's soccer team on Monday afternoon in Oswego. It was the first game of the year for Oswego State, and the Lakers are now 0-1-0. St. John Fisher improved to 1-0-1.
The Lakers got on the board in the first half in the 26th minute. Ashley Pople took a direct kick that St. John Fisher goalkeeper Ashley Martin saved off of the crossbar. The rebound fell to Oswego State's Tricia Sullivan, who scored the goal from close range.
Oswego State maintained the lead for 55 minutes but St. John Fisher scored a long-range goal with 8:26 left to play in the second half. Mary Dougherty controlled a loose ball in the midfield and shot from 30 yards out. The shot fell just underneath the crossbar and knotted the score at 1-1. It was Dougherty's second goal of the season.
