Lakers fall to nationally-ranked William Smith Herons

The Oswego State field hockey team lost 6-0 to William Smith College Saturday afternoon at Laker Field in Oswego.

The nationally-ranked Herons were led by two-goal efforts from Kaitlyn Hamilton and Kelsey Landahl. Herons goalkeeper Katie DeKraker turned away three shots and has yet to allow a goal this season. William Smith, ranked ninth in the national coaches poll, is 2-0 on the season.

The loss dropped the Lakers' record to 0-4 this season. They were outshot by a 13-2 margin in the first half, but equaled the Herons in the second half by placing five shots on goal. Oswego State goalkeeper Sarah Hafter kept the Herons scoreless for the final 17 minutes of the game and stopped nine shots overall. She now has 45 saves on the season.

The Lakers return to action Wednesday when they visit Hamilton College at 7 p.m. They return home next Saturday to host Morrisville, which will start off SUNYAC conference play.
