The Oswego State men's basketball team built an early lead and maintained a comfortable margin throughout the night in an 80-52 win over New Paltz in a SUNY Athletic Conference game on Friday at Max Ziel Gymnasium in Oswego.
The Lakers are now 7-3 on the season and 2-1 in the SUNYAC, while New Paltz fell to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Nick Perioli scored 19 points to lead the Lakers. Kyle Reuter added 15 and Tommy Downing had 14 points. Mahamoud Jabbi had seven rebounds and six blocked shots in the game, and also added four points.
Oswego State's perimeter defense held the visiting Hawks to an 0-for-13 shooting performance from behind the 3-point line in the game. The Lakers made 8 of their 20 three attempts, paced by Perioli with three 3-pointers.
Lee Bertram scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Hawks. Kyle Nelson had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Both teams turn around quickly and play at 4 p.m. Saturday. The Lakers host Oneonta and New Paltz plays at Morrisville.
