Lakers pull away in second half, win fourth straight

The Oswego State men's basketball team found its offensive touch in the second half and defeated Fredonia 72-57 on Saturday night at Max Ziel Gymnasium in Oswego.

The Lakers have now won four straight games and have a 12-4 overall record and 6-2 mark in the SUNY Athletic Conference. Fredonia fell to 6-10 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

Both teams struggled from the floor in the first half, as Oswego State made just seven field goals and Fredonia scored eight baskets, with the Lakers holding a 28-26 advantage at halftime.

Oswego State heated up in the second half, starting the half with a 24-6 run to build a 20-point lead. The Lakers shot 54 percent over the final 20 minutes.

Kyle Reuter led Oswego State with 21 points and Tommy Downing scored 15. Nick Perioli and Mahamoud Jabbi each finished the game with 13 points. The Lakers made 24-of-30 free-throw attempts in the contest.

James Kane led Fredonia with 17 points, and Kyle Gordon had 11 points and nine rebounds for the Blue Devils.

Oswego State hosts Morrisville on Tuesday at 8 p.m. to wrap up a four-game homestand.
