Hot-shooting St. Lawrence defeats Lakers in Canton

The Oswego State men's basketball team lost 97-88 at St. Lawrence on Tuesday night, as the host Saints shot 60 percent from the field and made 8-of-12 from behind the 3-point arc. The Lakers fell to 6-3 on the season, while St. Lawrence improved its record to 4-6 with the victory.

The Saints posted 61 points in the last 20 minutes to overcome a six-point deficit at the half.

The Lakers overcame an early seven-point deficit and took the lead with 9:32 left in the first half on a 3-pointer by Tommy Downing, and Oswego State maintained the advantage throughout the rest of the half, carrying a 42-36 lead into the break.

St. Lawrence took advantage of a turnover and went back in front with just under 15 minutes left to play in the second half. Despite the Lakers pushing St. Lawrence to the limit, the Saints prevailed, taking a comfortable double-digit lead with 3:17 left on the clock and maintaining it until the final moments.

The Saints were led by Wopperer, who netted 21 points for St. Lawrence and was 6-for-8 from the field, and perfect in three-pointers as well as from the line. The guard also tallied four rebounds, a team-high three steals and one assist. Six Saints scored in double figures in the contest.

Oswego State was led by 26 points from Tommy Downing and 23 points from Kyle Reuter. Mahamoud Jabbi scored 18 and Nick Perioli scored 14 with five assists.
