Jamie Scharfe stopped 12 shots in goal as the Oswego State field hockey team picked up its second straight win, and third of the season, with a 2-1 victory at Elmira College on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
The Lakers (3-7) jumped on the board at the 10:50 mark in the first half as Collins (Fairport) tallied her team-leading sixth goal of the season, taking a pass from sophomore midfielder Amy Carey (Rochester/Webster Schroeder) and putting a five-yard shot past Elmira goalkeeper Jalene McCulloch.
The Soaring Eagles would tie the game at 45:50 of the second half on a shot off of the initial save from Scharfe, but Oswego would get the go-ahead goal more than eight minutes later as McGuire (Macedon/Penfield) would score off the rebound of an Elmira save attempt at 52:35.
Both teams were even in total shots, 19-19, while Elmira held a 15-4 advantage in penalty corners. Scharfe finished with 12 saves in the nets, while McCulloch stoped 14 shots for the Soaring Eagles.
Oswego continues its road swing on Saturday, Oct. 4 when it takes on SUNYAC leader Geneseo at 1 p.m.
