Oswego plays to 1-1 overtime draw at Potsdam

Freshman Laura Ambron (Fishkill/John Jay) took a pass junior linemate Julie McCloskey (Hopewell Junction/John Jay) to score the game tying goal at 74:55 in the second half as the Oswego State women's soccer team played to a 1-1 overtime draw with host SUNY Potsdam on Friday, Oct. 3.

The game officially goes down as a tie, as both teams failed to score in the two 10-minute overtime periods. The Bears (7-2-2 overall, 0-2-1 SUNYAC) won the penalty-kick tiebreaker, 3-2, which will be used only if both teams are tied in the conference standing and are in contention for one of six SUNYAC playoff berths at the end of the season.

Both teams took only one shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes of play, while Potsdam, who scored the game's first goal at the 20:50 mark, held a 4-1 shots edge in the second half. The Lakers (5-3-1 overall, 1-1-1 SUNYAC) registered the only shots on goal in overime, taking two attempts in the second overtime.

Sophomore goalie Toby Klein (Westbury/W.T Clarke) made three saves in the net to remain unbeaten in her last four starts (3-0-1). Oswego will travel to face Plattsburgh State in day two of a North Country road trip at 1 p.m.
