The Oswego State field hockey team made a game of it with the College of Brockport, staying even with the visitors for 56 minutes, but the Golden Eagles scored three unanswered goals in the game's final 13 minutes to come away with an 8-4 triumph over the Lakers on Thursday, Oct. 9 on Laker Field.
Oswego completed its SUNYAC conference schedule with a 2-4 mark and currently sport a 3-9 record with four games remaining on the regular-season schedule.
Brockport scored the game's first goal at 23:25 on a goal from senior Amanda Pickard, but the Lakers jumped to a 2-1 lead with an unassisted goal from junior Hannah Chevalier (Williston, VT/Champlain Valley Union) at 26:03 and freshman Katie Mazuchowski (Tonawanda/Sweet Home) off of a pass from classmate Kelly Collins (Fairport) at 32:16. Brockport tied the game less than 30 seconds later when Kelly Henry scored the first of her game-high four goals on the day at 32:30
The Golden Eagles retook the lead only 31 seconds into the second half on Henry's second goal, but Oswego tied the game a second time on an unassisted goal from Collins at 37:43, but Brockport took the lead for good on back-to-back scores from Pickard and Henry at 40:45 and 40:20, respecrively. The Lakers pulled to within a goal when Collins scored her second goal of the game at 56:11 off of a pass from sophomore Sara Budde (Appleton/Barker), but Brockport's Pickard registered her third goal of the game one minute later, followed by back-to-back scores from Henry (60:14) and Jenn Danker (60:43).
The Golden Eagles held a 52-9 advantage in shots, with Laker sophomore Jamie Scharfe (Webster/Webster Thomas) stopping five.
Oswego travels to face Houghton College in a rematch of the season-opener on Tuesday, Oct. 14, before returning to Laker Field for a 1 p.m. showdown with Hamilton College on Family and Friends Weekend.
