Despite holding a 38-34 shots on goal advantage, the Oswego State women's hockey team (3-2-0, 1-2-0 ECAC West) allowed visiting Neumann College (1-2-0 overall and in ECAC West) to score goals in each period, with two coming on the power play, en route to a 3-0 loss to the Knights in game one of an ECAC Women's West weekend match-up at the Campus Center Ice Arena on Saturday, November 15.
The Knights first goal came early in the first period on the power play as Neumann's junior Captain Holly Williams won a face-off back to freshman defenseman Kayla Dubowski who whistled a slap-shot passed Oswego's sophomore goaltender Emi Williams 2:48 into the contest. Neumann opened the second period with a quick odd-man rush goal by sophomore Carly Bondra who lifted a wrist-shot over William's glove at 1:01 into the period.
The Knights tallied their second power-play goal 12:26 into the third period with Bondra scoring her second goal of the game on assists from Williams and Dubowski).
Neuman sophomore goalie Mel Brunet turned away 38 shots in earning the shutout and first star of the game honors, while Oswego's Williams made 31 saves in getting the loss.
The Lakers will look to split the series as it takes the ice Sunday afternoon against Neuman in a 2 p.m. contest at the Campus Center Ice Arena.
