BUFFALO, NY — Oswego sophomore Emily Grippin (Ithaca, NY/Syracuse Stars) scored the game-tying goal with less than three minutes left in the game to send it to overtime as the Lakers (3-3-1; 1-3-1 ECAC West) rallied to tie Buffalo State (0-5-3; 0-2-3), 2-2, in an ECAC Women's West game tonight at the Ice Arena, snapping a three-game losing streak.
Marissa McMullan (Haileybury, ON/Chingausousy) and Andrea Brunetta (Sault St. Marie, ON/St. Mary's) each had a goal and an assist for the Bengals. Gillian Toneguzzo (Caledonia, ON/McKinnon Park) chipped in two assists.
The Bengals opened the scoring at the 15:29 mark of the first period to a take a 1-0 advantage into the first intermission. The teams traded goals in the second, with Oswego getting a goal from freshman defender Kathryn Sbrocchi (Mississauga, ONT/Mississauga Chiefs Int A) at 2:15, and Buffalo State responding with a power-play marker to regain the lead. The Lakers killed three straight penalties to start the third and tied things at 2-2, but couldn't find the back the net despite a skater advantage for the final 36 seconds of the overtime period.
Both teams had 26 shots on goal. Buffalo State's Alyssa Koniar (New Berlin, WI/Univ. School of Milwaukee) and Oswego's Erin Robson (Orillia, ONT/Coldwater Wildcats) each had 24 saves.
Buffalo State and Oswego will face off again at the Ice Arena tomorrow at 4 p.m.
