Ashley Meyers (Lockport, NY) scored her first goal of the season, the game's only goal at 17:29 of the first period to lead Oswego State (3-0-0 overall, 1-0-0 ECAC West) to its third straight victory with a 1-0 triumph over SUNY Potsdam (1-3-1, 0-2-0 ECAC West) in an ECAC Women's West game at the Campus Center Ice Arena.
Meyers, the game's first star, scored on the power play after the Lakers won the ensuing faceoff on their end of the ice. Junior Jenna Kirkwood (Chilliwack, BC) and senior Jennifer Esposito (Parish, NY) assisted on the goal.
Oswego held a 48-28 shots on goal advantage and killed off all five power-play opportunities by the Bears, who are in their first varsity season as an ECAC West member after a 24-year hiatus.
Oswego sophomore goalie Emi Williams (Anchorage, AK) earned the second star of the game, posting her second win of the season and her first career shutout with 28 saves, stopping two of Potsdam's final four shots in the final minute of the game on a Potsdam power play, after the Bears pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker.
Potsdam goalie Hillary Hitchman (Potsdam, NY), who was a former player for the Lakers, made 47 saves in earning the third star of the game. Both teams meet again Saturday in the second game of a two-game series at the Oswego Campus Center Ice Arena at 7:00 p.m.
