Second-period scoring propels Lakers to 2-0 win over Potsdam

Second period goals from senior Mark Lozzi and sophomore Joe Hall, along with a solid goalkeeping effort from senior Chris Hyk, were all the Lakers needed in a 2-0 SUNYAC triumph at SUNY Potsdam on Saturday, Dec. 6, snapping a two-game losing streak.

After a scoreless opening period, Lozzi (Richmond Hill, ONT) tallied his eighth goal of the season on the game's opening score in the second, the eventual game winner, at 14:28 of the period off of assists from senior Derrell Levy (Markham, ONT) and junior Tyler Lyon (Foxboro, ONT).  Hall (Schaumburg, ONT), the second star of the game, followed with his third goal of the season more than a minute later (15:42) on a pass from junior Neil Musselwhite (Burlington, ONT).

Neither team scored in the final period, but both accounted for a total of 14 penalties for 76 minutes, with thirteen of them coming in the final 44 seconds of the game after a Potsdam cross-checking penalty. Mike Novak, Levy, and Peter Magagna each were hit with two-minute roughing penalties along with 10-minute misconducts, while Matt Rhymer, Fraser Smith and Conor Treacy, called for the cross check, were each hit with the same penalties.

Hyk, the first star of the game, stopped 21 shots in goal in posting his first career shutout in 20 games with the Lakers.

Oswego completes its first semester schedule with a non-conference contest at Hobart College on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 4 p.m.
