Six Oswego State (18-6 overall, 12-4 SUNYAC) players scored in double-figures as the Lakers eliminated Buffalo State (8-15 overall, 5-11 SUNYAC) from SUNYAC playoff contention with a 92-67 victory in the regular season finale Saturday evening at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.
Kyle Reuter and Tommy Downing led the attack with 20 points each. Mahamoud Jabbi had 16 points and 12 boards, and Dom White had 13 points and 14 boards. Nick Perioli and Dave Gardner added 10 points each.
Dion Mozelle led Buffalo State with 16 points and eight boards in his final game as a Bengal. James Tyndal added 13 points, and Jamar Gray scored 10.
After an early slim advantage for the Bengals to open the game, Oswego State pulled ahead and then used a 21-3 run to claim a 54-30 halftime advantage. Buffalo State mounted a small rally in the second half, but never cut the deficit to fewer than 14. Oswego State outscored the Bengals, 27-0, from 3-point range.
The Lakers will host a SUNYAC quarterfinal game on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against an opponent to be determined. Buffalo State will miss the playoffs for the first time since 1998 and just the second time since the SUNYAC founded the tournament in 1981.
