Brockport gets off to hot start in win over Lakers

The Oswego State men's basketball team lost 74-58 to visiting Brockport on Saturday afternoon at Max Ziel Gymnasium in Oswego.

Brockport improved to 16-6 overall with the victory and 12-1 in the SUNY Athletic Conference. Oswego State fell to 15-5 overall and 9-3 in the conference. The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak by the Lakers.

The Golden Eagles got off to a great start, scoring the first nine points of the game and building a 44-31 halftime advantage on 64.5 percent shooting over the first 20 minutes.

Oswego State was led by 16 points from Nick Perioli and 15 from Mahamoud Jabbi. Tommy Downing scored 10. Brandon Williams had 23 points and nine rebounds for the Golden Eagles. Jermaine Johnson added 14 and Sherod Harris had 10 points.

Prior to the start of the game, the Oswego State program honored its seven seniors playing in their final regular-season home game: Kase Kinney, Marshall Jones, Dave Gardner, Dom White, Nick Perioli, Chris Jenkins, and Ryan Schupp.

The Lakers are back in action on Friday at Morrisville at 8 p.m.
