Cortland defeats Oswego State; Downing scores 38 in loss

The Oswego State men's basketball team saw its season come to an end on Saturday night with an 90-80 loss to Cortland in an ECAC Upstate semifinal game in Brockport, N.Y. The Lakers finished the campaign with a 21-8 record.

Tommy Downing scored 38 points for Oswego State, the highest single-game scoring mark by a Laker player this season. He was 12-for-25 from the field and made five 3-pointers in the contest. He also made 9-of-10 free-throw attempts. Dom White and Mahamoud Jabbi scored 11 points each. Jabbi also had five blocks to extend his single-season school record in that category.

The game was tied 14-14 after six and a half minutes, but Cortland took the lead and never relinquished it the rest of the way. Oswego State committed just six turnovers in the game, and forced 16 miscues by the Red Dragons, but Cortland shot 54 percent from the field in the win.

The Red Dragons were led by 28 points from Paul Oliver, 16 from Mike Lewis and 12 each from Carson Niehoff and Juan Miolan.
