Oswego produces second-half outburst in 4-1 triumph over Alvernia College in second game of Cortland Tournament

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Oswego women's soccer team erupted for four later second-half goals and defeated Alvernia College, 4-1, Sunday afternoon in game three of the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons Classic. The Lakers improved to 2-0 with the win, while the Crusaders fell to 2-2.

Junior Leah Paige (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) led Oswego with a goal and an assist, and freshmen Ana Jurcak (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic), Kheetah Koutouan (Cornwall) and Alyssa Dean (Auburn/Union Springs) each contributed a goal. Junior Tricia Sullivan (Copenhagen) and freshman Laura Ambron (Fishkill/John Jay) had one assist each, and sophomore goalie Toby Klein (Westbury/W.T. Clarke) made six saves.

Freshman Kelly Reilly tallied Alvernia's lone goal. Freshman Kristin Mantle (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) started in goal and made three saves without allowing a score in the first half before giving way to sophomore Kirsten Kelley (Kirkwood, PA/Bishop Shanahan), who stopped four shots in the second half.

The Crusaders opened the scoring in the 34th minute. After a corner kick, Reilly's initial shot was turned away at the goal line by Oswego junior defender Brooke Sherman (Oswego). The ball bounced right back to Reilly, who one-timed her second chance into the net for her first career goal.

Alverina carried the lead late into the game when Oswego took control of the contest with its four-goal barrage in less than 16 minutes. Koutouan tied the game at 1-1 in the 74th minute with a 20-yard shot from the right side of the box. Paige scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 77th minute. Koutouan crossed the ball into the box from the right side and the ball was deflected by an Alvernia defender toward her goal. Kelley knocked the ball down but it went right to Paige who tapped it in the net. In the 84th minute, Dean converted a pass from Sullivan on the left side as she chipped a shot over Kelley, and Jurcak completed the scoring in the 90th minute when she headed in Ambron's cross at the left post.
