Four starters scored in double figures, led by 28 and 23 points, respectively by senior co-captains
Kyle Reuter (Mexico) and
Tommy Downing (Staten Island/Curtis), as Oswego State picked up its second straight victory in SUNYAC play with a 91-83 triumph over Plattsburgh State on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at Max Ziel Gymnasium. The win also gave Laker head coach Kevin Broderick his 200th career victory. In his 13th season as coach, Broderick currently sports a 200-143 record.
Reuter hit six of 15 shots from the field, five coming from three-point range, connected on 11 of 12 free throes, and made four steals, while Downing shot 7-for-15 from the floor, going six for 12 from behind the arc and dished out 10 rebounds.
Junior Stanley Francois (Valley Cottage/SUNY Cobleskill) posted his fourth consecutive "double-double" and eighth of the season with 15 points (5-for-6 FG shooting, 5-for-6 FT) and 11 rebounds while freshman Chad Burridge (Hannibal) contributed 11 points and six rebounds.
The Lakers (7-4, 3-1 SUNYAC) held a 46-38 lead at halftime as Reuter and Downing tallied 12 and 11 points, respectively, with both making three 3-pointers each. Plattsburgh opened the second-half on a five-point run to pull to within three points before Oswego used a 10-5 run to build its largest lead of the game at 57-47 with 16:07 to play. Reuter hit a pair of three-pointers in the run while freshman Conor Monaghan (Brooklyn/Xavier) added a three-pointer.
Plattsburgh answered with an 18-8 run over a 7:44 stretch to tie the game at 85-85 with 8:22 remaining, with Brad Nader and Farris Thomas scoring eight and six points, respectively in the run, but the Lakers took the lead for good on a 10-4 run to take a 77-69 lead with 4:17 to play, with Reuter scoring eight points in the run.
Nader was one of four players in double digits for Plattsburgh (3-10, 1-4 SUNYAC), scoring a team-high 22 points on 11 of 13 shooting from the field.
