With just 43 seconds gone in overtime,
Jordan McGuire (So., Macedon, N.Y.) found
Brittany Roetzer (Jr., Akron, N.Y.) for the game-winning goal as the Oswego State field hockey team defeated Brockport 2-1 on the road on Friday.
The Lakers, who beat the Golden Eagles for the second time this season, improved to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the league. Brockport dropped to 2-8 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
The Golden Eagles struck first when Allyson Granish scored at the 7:17 mark in the first half to give Brockport a 1-0 lead. However, Oswego State knotted the contest up after the midway point of the first half as Katie Mazuchowski (So., Tonawanda, NY) tallied her first goal of the season in the 21st minute, as McGuire picked up an assist on the play. Both teams remained tied at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Head coach Brandi Ostrander's squad controlled possession time in the second half as the Lakers took six shots compared to one for the Golden Eagles, but none of those shots was able to get past Brockport goalkeeper Jen Allen forcing the game into extra frames.
Oswego State stole the ball from the Golden Eagles at midfield and pushed the ball down the field at the start of overtime. Roetzer took a hard shot from just inside the circle, making Allen come up with a kick save sending the ball went out of bounds. The Lakers took possession from the sideline and sent a ball into the arc. McGuire had the first swing at the ball, but missed sending Allen to the ground. McGuire retained control as she pushed the ball to her right where Roetzer fired a shot into the empty side of the cage.
Jamie Scharfe (Jr., Webster, N.Y.) played well in the net with weather conditions, making six saves. Allen kept Brockport in the game by stopping nine shots.
