Rachel Allen (Elmsford, N.Y.) scored goals in the first and second half to help the Oswego State women's soccer team defeat Potsdam 3-0 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Oswego.
The Lakers, who posted their second consecutive shutout, moved above .500 with an overall record of 6-5-0 and a league record of 2-1-0. The Bears fell to 6-4-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the conference.
Allen put Oswego State ahead 1-0 in the sixth minute with her fourth goal of the season when her shot from the right side of the box had just enough on it to go over the goal line near the left post. Potsdam nearly evened the contest at 26:37 as Dedra Palmer ripped a long range shot. The ball went just above the outstretched hand of Laker goalie
Christina Fregosi (Massapequa, N.Y.) only to drill the center of the crossbar and go out of play.
Allen extended the Oswego State lead to two goals early in the second half after she was able to sneak past the defender and get around the goalkeeper after receiving a pass from
Tricia Sullivan (Sr., Copenhagen, N.Y.). Sullivan struck again in the 62nd minute when she tapped the ball to the left post of an open net after a Michelle Bateman (Fr., Fulton, N.Y.) cross got through the box.
Fregosi stopped four shots to improve to 5-3-0 on the season. Sarah Casey and Nicole Volpi combined to make five saves.
The Lakers remain at home for their next game as they face conference foe Buffalo State on Friday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m.
