After opening the game with a 16-0 run, the Oswego State men's basketball team never looked back en route to winning the Max Ziel Tournament Championship game 80-54 against Medgar Evers on Saturday afternoon in Oswego. The Laker defense held the Cougar offense to 5-for-30 shooting in the first half as they established a 43-20 halftime lead. Oswego State improved to 2-1 on the season, while Medgar Evers dropped to 1-2 overall.

The Lakers established their first half lead behind their rebounding efforts as they grabbed 34 boards, including 12 offensive rebounds, compared to 14 total for Medgar Evers.

Oswego State saw its lead grow to as much as 28 points early in the second half after Conor Monaghan (So., Brooklyn, N.Y.) hit one of his three three-pointers with 16:46 left to play.  The Cougars were never able to cut their deficit to fewer than 18 points as the Lakers hit timely three-point baskets or come up with key offensive rebounds to extend their possession time.

Sophomore Chad Burridge (Hannibal, N.Y.) led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the floor.  He was joined in double-figures by freshman Chris Gilkes (Syracuse, N.Y.), who came off of the bench to score 14 points and register eight rebounds, and Monaghan's 11 points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting night.  Senior Stanley Francois (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) reached 10 rebounds to go along with nine points.  Kallai Sharpe paced Medgar Evers with 12 points followed by 11 points from Marquis Jones.

Members of the All-Tournament Team included Bryan Eddy of Morrisville State, Walik Albright of New Jersey City University, Kallai Sharpe of Medgar Evers, and Hayden Ward (Fr., Montauk, N.Y.) and Chad Burridge of Oswego State.  Burridge was recognized as the Tournament MVP.

The Lakers return to action on Tuesday, December 1 against Clarkson at Max Ziel Gymnasium with an 8 p.m. tip-off.
