Box Score

Sophomore Jillian Bergeron (Brockville, Ont.) scored the go-ahead goal with 1:46 remaining to give the Oswego State women's hockey team a 3-2 victory over Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon in Oswego. Laker goaltender Emi Williams (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska) turned in a strong performance between the pipes as she compiled 35 saves on 37 shots. Oswego State improved to 3-3-0 overall and 2-3-0 in conference play, while the Bengals fell to 2-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in ECAC West competition.

Buffalo State ended a scoreless tie at 13:02 in the second period when Courtney Carnes scored one minute into a power play with assists credited to Rio Flynn and Kailyn Murray.  The Lakers answered with a power play goal of their own at the 17:13 mark as captain Angie Friesen (Sr., Chilliwack, B.C.) picked up her first goal of the season.  Kelly Collins (So., Fairport, N.Y.) earned an assist on the play as the squads skated into the final intermission tied 1-1.

The duo connected again near the midway point of the third period when Friesen found Collins for another power play goal and a 2-1 lead.  The Bengals evened the score as Casey Bull tallied her first goal of the season with 9:07 remaining in the contest.  However, Oswego State perseverance paid off late in the game as Bergeron netted the game-winning goal after receiving a pass from Lauren Gilpin (So., Georgetown, Ont.). at the 18:14 mark.

The Lakers were outshot 37-30, but Emi Williams came up big in goal with 35 saves.  Buffalo State goaltender Alyssa Koniar compiled 27 saves in the losing effort.

The squads wrap up the series on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Oswego.
