The offense continues to put up numbers as the Oswego State men's hockey team defeated Potsdam 8-1 on Friday night on the road.
Justin Fox (Jr., Whitby, Ont.) and
Eric Selleck (So., Spencerville, Ont.) each registered four points as Fox recorded two goals and two assists, while Selleck posted one goal and three assists. Fox and Selleck's linemate
Chris Laganiere (Jr., Owego, N.Y.) also contributed two assists. The Lakers improved to 4-1-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the SUNYAC, whereas Potsdam dropped to 1-2-0 overall.
Senior goaltender Kyle Gunn-Taylor (West Seneca, N.Y.) tallied a win in his first start of the season, stopping 24 of the 25 shots he faced. Oswego State will square off against archrival Plattsburgh on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Lakers opened a two-goal lead at the end of the first period as Jon Whitelaw (Fr., Huntsville, Ont.) and Fox tallied goals. Paul Rodrigues (Fr., Etobicoke, Ont.) and Luke Moodie (Fr., Burlington, Ont.) assisted Whitelaw's goal, while Selleck and Laganiere assisted Fox's power play and eventual game-winning score.
Potsdam pulled to within one goal 45 seconds into the second frame as Connor Treacy scored his third goal of the season. However, Oswego State bounced right back with another goal from Rodrigues nearly 90 seconds after the Bears' goal. The Lakers tacked on two more goals before the end of the period from Justin Fox at the 8:26 mark and Brad Dormiedy (Sr., Ajax, Ont.) at the 10:56 mark to seize control of the game with a 5-1 lead heading into the final period.
During the third period, Oswego State posted three goals in a 4:28 span as Neil Musselwhite (Sr., Burlington, Ont.), Selleck and Moodie got the puck past Potsdam goalie Trevor O'Neill, who finished the game with 19 saves. Kevin McFarland came into the game for O'Neill with 12:43 remaining in the game, and made two saves.
So far this season, the Lakers are averaging 5.40 goals per game, while limiting opponents to 2.00.
