Carey Turner sank a pair of free throws with time expired as the Oswego State women's basketball team fell to visiting Clarkson University 63-62 on Tuesday night in Oswego. The Golden Knights overcame a 12-point halftime deficit due in part to the play of Lauren Pluchino, who scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half. Kayla Ryan paced the Lakers with 18 points and nine boards. Oswego State fell to 1-4 on the season, while Clarkson improved to 2-3 overall.

Oswego State pulled away from the Golden Knights in the latter part of the first half outscoring Clarkson 12-4 in the final 5:26 of the frame. Wanda Sanchez (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) gave the Lakers a lift off of the bench as she tallied four points during the stretch. Oswego State turned 15 Golden Knight turnovers into 15 points as it went into the locker room with a 37-25 lead.

In the second half, Clarkson clamped down on defense as it forced the Lakers to commit 11 turnovers and shot 30.0 percent from the field. The Golden Knights went on a key 8-0 run midway through the second half with five points from Pluchino as Clarkson trailed 47-44 with 11:09 remaining. The lead fluctuated between three and five points until a pair of Pluchino free throws and a layup by Michelle Reddinger put the Golden Knights ahead 58-57 with 2:23 on the clock.

Oswego State's Kristen Diglio (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) responded with a huge three-pointer from the left wing to regain the lead, but Clarkson would hit three of its next four free throws to make the score 61-60 with 15 seconds remaining. Rachel Kohrs (Sr., New Lebanon, N.Y.) grabbed a defensive rebound for the Lakers, and hit Tricia Sullivan (Sr., Copenhagen, N.Y.) with the outlet pass. Sullivan went down the middle of the lane for a right-handed layup to give Oswego State a one-point lead with five seconds left to play. On the ensuing possession, Carey Turner corralled an offensive rebound and was fouled on the putback as time expired. She drained both free throws to give the Golden Knights a 63-62 win.

The Lakers' Tricia Sullivan joined Ryan in double-digits with 11 points off the bench. Carey Turner and Michelle Reddinger added 12 points apiece for Clarkson.

Oswego State begins conference competition on Friday when it hosts Brockport at 6 p.m.
