Lakers put an end to three game skid in 64-47 win over Geneseo

Oswego State forced 22 turnovers and had three players scoring in double figures en route to a 64-47 win over SUNY Geneseo in SUNYAC women's basketball action at Max Ziel Gymnasium. The Lakers (10-12, 8-5 SUNYAC) snapped a three game losing streak with the win and remained in fifth place in the conference standings.

Freshman forward Kayla Ryan (Schaghticoke/ Hoosic Valley) scored all of her 15 points in the second half, going 7-for-11 from the field. Sophomore forward Colleen McCready (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) scored 12 points to go along with eight rebounds, while senior guard Heather Merino (Queensbury/Lake George) added 10 points.

The Blue Knights (6-15, 3-9 SUNYAC) had two players reach double figures in Amanda Bihr (Williamsville) and Tracy Wangelin (Olean), each scoring ten points. Bridget Riley (Syracuse/ Westhill) lcontributed nine points to go with a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Lakers lead 31-21 at the half, despite going 2-for-13 from 3-point range, but opened the second half seven straight points to open up their lead to 38-21 with 16:56 to play. Oswego shot 51.9 percent (14-for-27) from the field in the half, while holding the Blue Knights to 33.3 percent.

The Lakers host back-to-back weekend conference games, beginning with New Paltz on Friday Feb. 13, followed by Oneonta State the next day. Both games start at  6 p.m.
