BROCKPORT - Oswego State received goals from five different players, with two scoring goals within the final minute of play in the second period, en route to extending their longest winning streak of the season to eight games with a 5-4 win over The College at Brockport in SUNYAC men's hockey action at the Tuttle North Ice Arena.
Oswego tallied the game's opening goal 3:44 into the first period as senior defender Mark Lozzi (Richmond Hill, ONT) scored his team leading 13th goal of the season off of assists from Garren Reisweber and Derrell Levy. The Golden Eagles would end the period with a 2-1 lead thanks to back to back goals from Sean O'Malley at the 6:36 and 14:12 mark.
The second period would provide the most excitement of the entire game as the Lakers would outscore Brockport, 4-1 in the period. After an unassisted goal from junior Neil Musselwhite (Burlington, ONT) at 4:25 evened the score at 2-2, Brockport would retake the lead, 3-2, more than nine minutes later when Lucas Schott scored off of passes from Mike Gershon and O'Malley at the 9:27 mark.
Oswego took control and the lead for good with three unanswered goals from its three seniors. Brendan McLaughlin (Brampton, ONT) would tie the score at 15:56 with his eighth goal of the season, while defenseman Mike Novak (Milton, ONT) would score the go-ahead goal with 35 seconds left in the period and captain Peter Magagna (Orangeville, ONT), the game's first star, followed with the game winner 24 seconds later. Brockport would pull to within a goal with a score on the power play 6:19 into the third period.
Novak and McLaughlin were the top point scorers for Oswego, each finishing with a goal and an assist, while junior goaltender Tim Potter (Bakersfield, CA) stopped 31 Brockport shots to post his eighth consecutive win in the nets.
The Lakers will look to extend their winning streak on Saturday, Feb. 14 when it travels to face SUNY Geneseo at 7:00 p.m. The Blue Knights snapped the team's seven-game unbeaten streak earlier this season, and a 10-game home unbeaten streak dating back to last season with a 4-2 victory on Nov. 22 at the Campus Center Arena.
