Senior guard
Kyle Reuter (Mexico) scored 22 of his 38 points in the second half as the Lakers earned a hard fought win, improving their record to (15-8, 11-4 SUNYAC) on Feb. 14 at the Max Ziel Gymnasium. The Lakers take over sole possession of second place in the SUNYAC division with the win, breaking their tie with Oneonta who dropped to (17-5, 10-4 SUNYAC).
The Lakers had four players in double digits, including Reuter who went five-for-eight from the 3-point line en-route to his 38 point performance. Junior forward Stanley Francois (Valley Cottage) added a “double-double” with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Freshmen forward Chad Burridge (Hannibal) scored 16 points and senior guard Tommy Downing (Staten Island/ Curtis) scored 14 points to go along with a team high three steals.
Oneonta had five players in double digits in a losing effort including, Brian Beckford (Brooklyn/ Christ the King) with 24, Maurice Lane (Bakersfield) with 18, Michael Grimes (Albany/ Catholic Central) added 17, Ryan Morin (Altamont/Guilderland) with 15, and Terrence Parker (Queens/ John Adams) with 10.
Reuter went 13-for-13 from the charity stripe and went 10-for-16 from the field. He was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer early on in the second half and managed to convert the 3-pointer along with the free throw making a four point play. The Lakers as a team shot 57.1 percent from the field for the game and 47.6 percent from beyond the arc.
The Lakers finish up their regular season with a home game next Friday Feb. 20 against Buffalo State in the Max Ziel Gymnasium as they try to finish the season with a three game winning streak.
