Lakers swept by fourth-ranked Elmira, 7-0, in home finale

Elmira College scored four times in the opening period and were never challenged en route to a 7-0 win over host Oswego State in the second game of  a two-game ECAC Women's West weekend series on Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Campus Center Ice Arena, spoiling the final home appearance of Laker seniors Stephanie Esposito (Parish, NY), Kendall Hanley (Raleigh, NC), Jessica Lister (Aurora, ONT), and Ashley Meyers (Lockport, NY).  The quartet represents the first senior class for the three-year-old varsity program.

Seven different players scored for the fourth-ranked Soaring Eagles (18-3-1, 14-1-1 ECAC West), who outshot Oswego (8-13-1, 5-10-1 ECAC West), 53-16, including 22-4 in the opening period.  Five players tallied a goal and an assist, with Jami Kivi scoring the opening goal and game winner at the 5:27 mark and assisting on the final goal of the game with 40 seconds left in the third period.

Goaltender Allison Cubberley scored her second shutout of the series, stopping all 17 Oswego shots.  Junior Erin Robson (Orillia, ONT) played the opening period for the Lakers, making 18 saves, while sophomore Emi Williams (Anchorage, AK) played the final two periods, stopping 28 shots.

Oswego, who remains in sixth place in the standings with 11 points, will close out the regular season with a two-game series at two-time NCAA Division III Champion Plattsburgh State on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 20-21, then will have to wait out the outcomes of the three teams below them in the standings to determine their playoff fate. Chatham College, Buffalo State and SUNY Potsdam all trail the Lakers by three points, with each having to play one of the top four teams in the standings on the final weekend.

The top six teams qualify for the ECAC West playoffs the following weekend, with the top two seeds earning byes into the semifinal round. If the season were to end today, Oswego would be making a return trip to Plattsburgh for a mid-week opening round game.
