The Oswego State women's soccer team raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first four minutes against D'Youville and never looked back in a 10-0 victory at home on Tuesday. Three players,
Laura Ambron (So., Fishkill, N.Y.), Michelle Bateman (Fr., Fulton, N.Y.), and
Rachel Allen (So., Ardsley, N.Y.), tallied two goals apiece as the Lakers outshot the Spartans 36-1. Oswego State started the season at 1-0, while D'Youville fell to 0-1.
Head coach Brian McGrane's squad set the tone early as the first shot of the game by Kassie Kleine (Fr., Cazenovia, N.Y.) went off the crossbar followed by Michelle Bateman's first goal of the game at 00:25. With 3:11 elapsed on the clock, the Lakers struck again when Laura Ambron found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Bateman. Nearly thirty seconds later Alyssa Dean (So., Auburn, NY) took advantage of another rebound to score her first goal of the season to give Oswego State a 3-0 lead.
The Lakers continued to put pressure on the Spartans early resulting in the fourth goal of the game at 5:08 when Dean found Ambron for her second goal of the contest. Two minutes later Bateman posted her second goal with the assist being credited to Ambron to put Oswego State ahead 5-0 with 7:01 gone in the first half. Allen would record both of her scores in the first half along with a goal from Liz Miller (Jr., Oswego, N.Y.) to give the Lakers an 8-0 halftime lead.
Oswego State kept putting pressure on D'Youville goalkeeper Delisa Clifton, who came up with 15 total saves, in the second half. Kleine and senior Julie McCloskey (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) scored the final two goals of the game as the Lakers prevailed 10-0. Oswego State limited the Spartans to one shot as Laker goalkeeper Christina Fregosi (Massapequa, N.Y.) failed to face a shot on goal.
The Lakers will next face Cazenovia on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Oswego.
