Oneonta's Rebecca Bucci and Samantha Szkotak scored 19 points each as the Red Dragons defeated the Oswego State women's basketball team 59-44 on Tuesdsay night at Max Ziel Gymnasium. The Laker offense was never able to get into a rhythm as it shot 31.1 percent from the floor on 14-for-45 shooting, while Oneonta hit eight shots from behind the three-point arc.
Colleen McCready (Jr., Pittsford, N.Y.) and
Kristen Diglio (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) paced Oswego State with 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Lakers dropped to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the SUNYAC, while the Red Dragons remained undefeated in conference play at 5-0 and 7-5 overall.
With the score knotted at 6-6, Oneonta went on an 11-2 run behind a pair of three-pointers and a jumper by Bucci to take a 17-8 lead with 11:26 left in the first half. Teams exchanged baskets until a layup by McCready sent Oswego State into the locker room at the half trailing 29-22.
Diglio pulled the Lakers to within four points after a three-pointer, but Oswego State followed that with a six-minute scoreless drought as the Red Dragons answered with a 12 unanswered points to take a 41-26 lead. The Lakers ended the game with six straight points to make the final score 59-44.
Oswego State travels to Potsdam on Friday, Jan. 15 for a 6 p.m. contest.
