Second Half Run Gives Men's Basketball 70-54 Victory Against New Paltz

The Oswego State men's basketball team to a three-point 33-30 lead with 14:23 remaining before going on a decisive 11-0 run that gave the Lakers a 70-54 win over New Paltz on Tuesday in Oswego. Four Oswego State players reached double-figures, including Conor Monaghan, who tallied four of his game-high 20 points during the pivotal stretch. Head coach Adam Stockwell's squad improved to 9-6 overall and 4-5 in the SUNYAC, while the Hawks fell to 8-8 on the season and 4-5 in the league.

The Lakers raced out to a 17-2 lead in the first 5:33 of the contest.  However, New Paltz settled into a rhythm late in the period to close out the stanza with 13 unanswered points to cut the deficit to three points at halftime as Oswego State held a 27-24 advantage.

The margin stayed at three points until five points from Chad Burridge, four from Monaghan, and a pair of free throws by Hayden Ward put the Lakers ahead 44-30 with 11:49 remaining.  Oswego State's lead swelled to 21 points before the end of the game, as it cruised to a 70-54 victory.

In addition to Monaghan's 20 points, Burridge tallied 15 points followed by Ryan Sheridan's 11 points and Stanley Francois' 10.  The Hawks were paced by Jayquan Anderson, who scored 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting.  Shereef Taylor and Harris Wichard added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lakers start a four-game road trip on Friday when they take on Geneseo at 8 p.m.  New Paltz will travel to Potsdam on Friday for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
