The Oswego State women's basketball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end after Geneseo defeated the Lakers 49-41 on Friday night in Geneseo. The Knights limited Oswego State to 12 first-half points on 5-of-29 shooting.
Rachel Kohrs led all scorers with 17 points, but was the only Laker to reach double-digits as the squad dropped to 9-8 on the season and 6-4 in SUNYAC play. Geneseo's Bri Dunton and Khadija Campbell tallied 13 points each for the Knights, who improved to 11-6 overall and 7-3 in the league.
The Knights took an 18-12 lead into the locker room at halftime as both teams shot under 20 percent in the frame. Geneseo pushed its lead to 11 points with 12:58 left to play before a 7-2 Oswego State run with treys from Sue Schoff and Kohrs pulled the Lakers to within six points at 32-26.
Oswego State was unable to get any closer than five points with 1:28 remaining on the clock as the Knights made 8-of-11 free throws down the stretch.
Both squads struggled offensively as each shot below 25 percent. Geneseo was able to create numerous second-chance opportunities, though, by pulling down 23 offensive boards en route to holding a 55-37 advantage on the glass over the Lakers.
Oswego State wraps up its weekend road trip on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Brockport.
