The Oswego State men's basketball team shot a blistering 53.2 percent from the field, but it would not be enough as Brockport handed the Lakers a 76-61 loss on Saturday. Gerald Williams came off of the bench to score a game-high 20 points for the Golden Eagles, while the Lakers were paced by Chad Burridge's 18 points. Oswego State fell to 9-8 overall and 4-7 in the league, while Brockport improved to 13-5 overall and 9-2 in the SUNYAC standings.
The Golden Eagles held a 31-20 lead with 5:06 on the clock in the first half before four different Lakers scored to make it a three-point game. Brockport hit a three on the final possession of the first half to take a 35-30 advantage into halftime.
Oswego State pulled to within three with 13:03 to play after a layup by Burridge, but that would be as close as the Lakers would get as the Golden Eagles built a 17-point lead later in the stanza to earn the victory.
In addition to Burridge's 18 points, Hayden Ward came off the bench to score 13 points. Brandon Williams and Jermaine Johnson contributed 17 points and 15 points, respectively, for Brockport. Oswego State had a higher shooting percentage than the Golden Eagles, but Brockport hit ten three-pointers and went 16-of-21 from the charity stripe.
The Lakers continue their current road trip on Tuesday when they travel to Oneonta to take on the Red Dragons at 8 p.m.
