Box Score
For the second straight game, the Oswego State women's ice hockey team staged a third period comeback to skate away with a 2-1 victory at Cortland on Sunday afternoon. The Lakers lit the lamp twice in less than a minute midway through the third period to pick up two important points in the ECAC West Standings. Oswego State, which improved to 6-11-1 overall and 4-7-1 in the league, now sits two points out of fifth place. The Red Dragons fell to 4-13-1 overall and 3-8-1 in the conference.
The Laker offense pressured Red Dragon netminder Katie Double in the second period, tallying 13 shots in the frame, but was unable to find the back of the net. It was Cortland that got on the board first, though, when Erika Osborne scored her first goal of the season at the 17:13 mark in the second period.
Sarah Hannon (Jr., Lackawanna, N.Y.) tied the game for the Lakers at 8:51 in the final period with assists going to Emily Grippin (Jr., Ithaca, N.Y.) and Kelly Collins (So., Fairport, N.Y.). Oswego State took the lead 54 seconds later when Kathryn Sbrocchi (So., Mississauga, Ont.) recorded her second goal of the year after receiving a pass from Erica Shapey (Jr., Plainview, N.Y.) and Kristin Metzger (Fr., Lee Center, N.Y.).
Both goaltenders turned in solid performances as the Lakers' Emi Williams (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska) stopped 20 of the 21 shots she faced, while Double turned away 26 shots.
Oswego State will host a pair of games against Utica at the Campus Center Arena beginning on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.
