Women's Soccer Loses Tough Battle 1-0 at Plattsburgh

Box Score

The Oswego State women's soccer team turned in a gritty performance and stuck with regionally-ranked Plattsburgh, but ultimately suffered a 1-0 loss Friday evening in Plattsburgh. The Lakers fell to 5-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the SUNYAC, while Plattsburgh moved to 7-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play.

Despite the Cardinals having an overwhelming advantage in shots on goal of 7-2, Oswego State had the first scoring chance in the ninth minute when Toby Klein fired a shot at Plattsburgh goalkeeper Alina Greiser, who made the save. The Lakers had a second opportunity two minutes later when Melissa Sluka struck another shot on goal, but could not get it past Greiser. From that point forward, Oswego State did not muster another shot on goal in the contest. The Cardinals controlled the ball as they outshot the Lakers in 16-2 the rest of the way.  However, the two teams remained scoreless through 45 minutes.

Plattsburgh struck 15 minutes into the second period as Kayla Rabideau played a cross from the right side to an oncoming Megan Rivage, who finished past Christina Fregosi, for her first goal of the season. The Lakers managed one final shot in the 68th minute when Nikki Liadka missed wide of the net. Fregosi finished with six saves in net for Oswego State, while Greiser compiled two saves in the shutout win for Plattsburgh.

Oswego State continues its Northern road trip Saturday, as it squares off against Potsdam at 1 p.m.
