The Oswego State field hockey team closed out the SUNYAC portion of its schedule with a 3-0 loss to New Paltz on Saturday in New Paltz. Laker goalkeeper
Jamie Scharfe recorded eight saves as Oswego State dropped to 4-9 overall and 1-5 in the SUNYAC standings. The victory clinched a spot in the conference tournament for the Hawks, who improved to 7-7 overall and 3-3 in the league.
It was a scoreless game until the 22nd minute when New Paltz was awarded a penalty stroke. Kim Lepore took advantage of the scoring chance, as her shot got past Scharfe to put the Hawks ahead 1-0, which was where the score stood at halftime.
During the early stages of the second stanza, Sarah Schloss registered two goals for New Paltz in the 43rd and 49th minute to put the game out of reach for Oswego State. They would be the only shots on goal for the Hawks in the second half. The Lakers managed two shots on net in the period as well. New Paltz goalkeepers Antonija Pjetri and Elizabeth Dini combined to stop five shots for the shutout.
Oswego State will next face Houghton College on the road Thursday, Oct. 21 at 4:30 p.m.
