The Oswego State women's soccer team exploded for six goals in a 6-0 win against Clarkson on Wednesday afternoon in its season finale at Laker Soccer Field. The win moved the Lakers to 7-10-1 overall and the loss dropped the Golden Knights to 4-13-0.
Nikki Liadka got the scoring started in the 15th minute after she received the ball at midfield and streaked down the field beating charging Golden Knight goalkeeper Stephanie Collins for her 13th goal of the season. In the 29th minute,
Kara Peck took a
Shelly Bateman ball up the right side and fired a shot past Collins inside the left post for the 2-0 halftime lead.
In the 64th minute, Bateman dribbled along the left endline where she faked a left-footed shot and brought it back to her right, knocking it home for her sixth goal of the year. Seven minutes later,
Jackie Thibault beat Collins to a ball and tapped it over to
Kaylie Ewers, who finished into the empty net for the 4-0 Laker lead.
In the 88th minute, senior captain
Kelly Morritt banged home her first goal of the season off a feed from
Allegra Uva. Just under a minute later,
Kassie Kleine fed Brittany Williams for her third goal of the season to cap off the 6-0 win.
Collins and Liz Snow combined to allow six goals and make eight saves for Clarkson, while
Christina Fregosi stopped two shots in the shutout for the Lakers.
Oswego State honored its four seniors;
Toby Klein, Morritt,
Liz Miller and
Alex Root before Saturday's game, but officially sent the foursome out with a victory Wednesday.
