Box Score
Whatever struggles the Oswego State women's ice hockey team had on the power play on Friday night, it fixed them early as an early power play goal propelled the Lakers to a 3-1 victory over host Adrian on Saturday afternoon.
Kelly Collins registered her first goal of the season at the 3:30 mark with the extra skater to set the tone for Oswego State. The Lakers moved to 1-1-0 overall with the win, while the Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season.
After Adrian commited a cross-checking penalty,
Olivia Boersen played the puck to
Megan Howe, who fed it to Collins giving Oswego State an early 1-0 edge. The score remained there through the rest of the period.
In the second frame, the Bulldogs had three power-play chances, but the Lakers were able to kill each one off to preserve the lead. The effort paid off as #Mackenzie Lee# tallied an unassisted goal at 16:19 to double the Oswego State advantage heading into the final period.
Boersen and Howe worked together for another goal at the start of the third stanza when Boersen netted her first collegiate goal at the 1:54 mark. The Bulldogs avoided the shutout as Stacey Kempson posted her second marker of the season, but it would be too little too late as the Lakers held on for the 3-1 victory.
Oswego State goaltender
Emi Williams compiled 22 saves, while Emily Michelin made 25 saves.
The Lakers open ECAC West play next weekend when they host Elmira on Saturday and Sunday with 3 p.m. starts.
