Field Hockey Shuts Out Elmira 5-0

Box Score

Brittany Roetzer scored two goals early in the first half as the Oswego State field hockey team cruised to a 5-0 victory over host Elmira on a wet Tuesday afternoon.  Kelly Collins was a part of the final three Laker goals assisting the third and fourth before tallying the final goal by herself.  Oswego State improved to 3-6 overall, while the Soaring Eagles dropped to 0-9 on the season.

Senior Sara Budde sent a cross through the offensive zone as Roetzer tipped the ball out of the air into the back of the net.  Roetzer added her second goal minutes later when she ripped a shot for the top right circle past Elmira goaltender Lauren Thomas to put the Lakers ahead 2-0.

Oswego State's third goal came when Ashley Fiorelle beat Thomas to a ball for her first collegiate goal after Collins sent a pass through the crease.  Collins later worked her way through the defense for a one-on-one chance, but she slipped the ball to Alyssa Hare, who poked it in for the score.  Just before the end of the contest, Collins capped off the game with her fourth goal of the year as she beat Thomas to a loose ball.

Head coach Brandi Ostrander's squad controlled play as it outshot Elmira 27-8.  Laker goalie Jamie Scharfe stopped five shots for her first shutout of the season, while Thomas finished with 17 saves.

Oswego State will play its final two home games of the year later this week when it hosts Wells Thursday at 4 p.m. and Morrisville Saturday at 1 p.m.
