The Oswego State women's ice hockey team broke out for five goals as it defeated non-conference Hamilton by the score of 5-1 Tuesday evening at the Campus Center Arena. Mackenzie Lee registered two goals for the home team, while Olivia Boersen added a pair of assists. The victory moved the Lakers to 2-4-3 overall, while the Continentals dropped to 0-3-0.

Eight seconds after Oswego State killed a hooking penalty, Stephanie Smith's wrist shot from the right side went over Laker netminder Emi Williams' shoulder to give Hamilton the early edge at 6:59. However, Oswego State leveled the contest less than two minutes later when Carly Henderson pounced on a rebound created from a shot by Leah McNaughton. The score remained tied at one for the rest of the period.

It did not take long for the Lakers to take the lead in the second frame as Lauren Gilpin got a shot through a screen after Kristin Metzger won a face-off in the Oswego State offensive end 36 seconds into the period. Shortly after the play, Hamilton was whistled for a holding penalty that the Lakers capitalized on. With heavy traffic in front of Continental goaltender Rebecca Hazlett and a loose puck, Mackenzie Lee tallied her fifth goal of the season with assists going to Jillian Bergeron and Olivia Boersen at 2:33 to extend the lead.

The Lakers went on to play most of the remaining period a skater down, as the team was called for six penalties before the frame was over. Hamilton applied heavy pressure, firing 23 shots, but was unable to cut into the deficit. Oswego State also added to its lead when senior assistant captain Meagan Big Snake tallied the first goal of her collegiate career from the left point at the 16:24 mark to make the score 4-1.

Midway through the third period while the Lakers were on the power play, Sbrocchi threaded a pass through the crease from left to right to Mackenzie Lee, who wristed the shot top-shelf for the second goal of the game, for a 5-1 advantage.

Oswego State finished the game 2-for-6 on the power play, while Hamilton went 0-for-10. Williams compiled 38 saves in the win, including 23 in the second period. Hazlett recorded 26 stops in the losing effort.

The Lakers return to action December 3-4 in Oswego with contests versus Potsdam. Both games are slated for 7 p.m.
