Women's Ice Hockey Upended 7-4 At Hamilton

Box Score

Kelly Collins scored two goals, while Jillian Bergeron added a goal and an assist for the Oswego State women's ice hockey team in Wednesday's contest at Hamilton, but would not be enough as the Lakers fell 7-4.  Stephanie Miguel and Abby Runyon scored two goals apiece for the Continentals, who improved to 6-7-0 overall.  Oswego State, which dropped to 7-6-3 on the season, will host Chatham in a key conference two-game series starting on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Oswego.

The scoring got started late in the first period when Stephanie Miguel tallied her first goal of the game while Hamilton was short-handed at the 14:27 mark.  Kelly Collins evened the score at 1-1 nearly four minutes later when the Lakers capitalized on a Continental interference penalty.  Melissa Seamont and Chelsea Hunt were credited with assists on the goal.  However, Hamilton regained the lead following the ensuing face-off as Nikki Haskins' goal at 18:39 gave the Continentals a 2-1 edge at the break.

Collins leveled the score again at 4:27 in the second period when she received a feed from Kristin Metzger and Sarah Hannon.  Hamilton responded quickly as Runyon put the Continentals ahead for good at the 5:46 mark.  Runyon scored later in the period to make the score 4-2 with 3:07 left in the second period.  Oswego State was not finished lighting up the scoreboard before intermission though, as Jillian Bergeron fed Mackenzie Lee for her team-leading ninth goal of the season.  Yet again, Hamilton countered with a goal by Emily Baxter 25 seconds later to give the home team a two-goal lead with 20 minutes remaining.

The Laker power play struck for the second time in the game at 4:48 when Bergeron scored with an assist going to Meagan Big Snake to cut the deficit to one goal.  That would be as close as Oswego State would get as the Continentals tacked on two more scores before the final horn sounded.

Laker goaltender Catherine Cote suffered her first loss of the season despite making 31 saves.  Tori Bogen stopped 22 shots for Hamilton to move her record to 2-0-0.
