The Oswego State women's ice hockey team completed a conference series sweep after posting a 6-2 victory over Chatham Sunday afternoon at the Campus Center Ice Arena. Five Lakers tallied goals with
Lauren Gilpin leading the way with two goals. Oswego State, which improved to 9-6-3 overall, now sits in fourth place in the ECAC West standings at 13 points with a record of 5-4-3 and six league games remaining. The Cougars fell to 0-10-0 overall and in the conference.
Gilpin started the scoring for the Lakers at 7:48 in the first period with an unassisted goal, and was followed less than a minute later by an unassisted goal from
Megan Howe to give Oswego State a 2-0 edge. Chatham cut the deficit in half at the 12:59 mark when Sydney Williams registered a short-handed goal. The Lakers appeared to be headed into the locker room with the 2-1 lead, but
Kelly Collins got the puck past Cougar goaltender Kaitlynn Smith, who made 50 saves, with ten seconds remaining to make the score 3-1 at the break.
The score remained intact until Gilpin netted her second goal of the game at 10:22 with assists going to
Emily Grippin and
Brenna Weber. Chatham responded once again at 15:50 when Dawson Bancroft-Short fed Sara Forbes for a goal that made the score 4-2 at the end of two stanzas.
Both squads struggled on the power play as the Cougars went 0-for-6 compared to the Lakers, who went 1-for-8. Oswego State goalie
Emi Williams ended the game with 11 saves.
The Lakers head to Plattsburgh next Saturday for a two-game set slated for 3 p.m. starts.
