Offense Struggles In 64-49 Women's Basketball Loss At Cortland

The Oswego State women's basketball team struggled to find a rhythm Saturday afternoon as it shot 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the floor in a 64-49 loss to host Cortland.  Kayla Ryan reached double-digits with 11 points, while Colleen McCready hauled in 11 rebounds for the Lakers, who fall to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC.  The Red Dragons, who are 8-1 overall and 3-0 in league play were paced by Jen Polan's 15 points off the bench.

Polan made 5-of-8 shots, all from behind the arc, and scored 12 of her 15 points in the second half to help Cortland pull away from a 27-24 halftime lead. Brittany Cohen scored 14 points and dished out 10 assists, Molly Byrne finished with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and Micki Volpini added 10 points.
 
Meagan Stover added nine points and McCready added eight points to go along with her 11 rebounds.
 
Oswego State led 21-13 on a Stover jumper with 9:52 left in the first half, but Cortland held the Lakers scoreless for more than seven minutes. Jennifer Patten gave Cortland the lead for good at 23-21 with a layup at the 3:33 mark and completed Cortland's 12-0 run with two foul shots 41 seconds later.
 
Oswego State was still within two at 35-33 on a Jenna Rossi layup with 12:23 remaining in the contest. Cortland scored the next 11 points, starting with a Polan three-pointer and concluding with a Byrne trey with 8:50 left. The Red Dragons led by at least eight points the rest of the way.

The Lakers will travel to Oneonta to face the Red Dragons on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
